Crucifiction Cave, Lemon Pot and Lemon Pot 2
|
Lemon Pot Lemon Pot was discovered on our initial foray into the conifer plantations of Langstrothdale Chase during November 1997. A small stream flows south and sinks almost immediately at the upper boundary of the Middle Limestone. Although initial investigations detected a cobble blockage at the first corner, subsequent investigations by Ben Young and Gavin Elsley made began to make progress. On passing the blockage Gavin forced the cave through several tortuous corners through to small cascades and a terminal chamber containing a cobble choked sump. At only 35 m long and 7 m deep the find was interesting only for its technical difficulty (Grade IV) and a desire to locate the resurgence. Crucifiction Cave Crucifiction Cave was discovered by myself, Gavin Elsley and Adrian Hall during the Easter holidays of 1999. A surprise breakthrough in a shallow surface depression, gave way to a 436 m long canal cave, explored over and surveyed over three trips. Gavin and I wrote an article about the find for Decent magazine
Gavin and Rob following the second exploration trip. |
